Muscat: A large number of hotels in Oman registered around 100 per cent occupancy during the Eid holidays.
The Masirah Island Resort and Ras Al Jinz Turtle Reserve reported full occupancy levels during most of the nine-day break.
Vijay Handa, cluster general manager, Masirah Island Resort and the Ras Al Jinz Turtle Reserve, said the hotel business was booming during the Eid holidays. “Most of the people were back after the school vacations and thus avoided long distance travel or visiting countries beyond the border,” he said. Besides these two hotels, Alila Jabal Akhdar, which overlooks a dramatic gorge and is surrounded by awe-inspiring views of the Al Hajar Mountains, drew more than 85 per cent of the visitors during the holiday.
According to the hotel, Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) nationals represented 41 per cent of the total visitors, followed by GCC expats, which represented 28 per cent of the visitors on September 13.
Citizens and residents represented 36 per cent of the visitors, of which Omanis accounted for 15 per cent of the visitors. The rest were Europeans and people belonging to other nationalities.
On September 14, GCC nationals made up 45 per cent of the total visitors, followed by GCC expats, who accounted for 24 per cent of the visitors.
Citizens and the residents represented 23 per cent of the visitors, while Omanis accounted for 10 per cent of the visitors. The remainder were Europeans and people belonging to other nationalities. Perched over 2,000 metres above sea level, the resort has been drawing crowds from all over the GCC, who head to Oman’s green mountains due to its cool and pleasant weather.
Perfect base
The resort is the perfect base for exploring the region’s magnificent landscape of rugged, untouched beauty, while experiencing sumptuous comfort. Counted among one of the best hotels in Oman, Alila Jabal Akhdar is a haven for adventure travellers, nature lovers and those seeking a retreat from the desert heat.
According to the Ministry of Tourism (MoT), more than 4,000 visitors visited the green mountains on Wednesday. “The entire mountains were crowded with people picnicking and camping almost everywhere. We saw lots of four-wheel drives from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the temperature was around 23 degrees, everyone looked quite happy and excited,” said Sushma, an Indian expat who went to Jabal Akhdar during the Eid holidays.
Many people in Muscat opted for Jabal Akhdar instead of Salalah because the latter is located about 1000 kilometres from Muscat, whereas the former is closer. “I had to struggle a lot to get a four wheeler as all them were booked in advance,” said Satish, who drives a small car in Muscat.
