The embassy asked citizens to consider postponing any visits to Zimbabwe, also warning Omanis in Zimbabwe to exercise caution and seek medical attention if required.

An official statement by the Oman’s embassy said: “The embassy of the Sultanate of Oman in the Republic of South Africa would like to alert all Omani nationals to the cholera and typhoid outbreak in Zimbabwe.

“Nationals who are already in Zimbabwe should be cautious and should they develop any symptoms they should visit the nearest health facility in Zimbabwe.

“Nationals wishing to travel to Zimbabwe should consider postponing their visit until further notice”.

At least 24 people have died in the cholera outbreak in the African nation so far. The Zimbabwean government has declared an emergency to combat the epidemic.
