New Delhi: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to address the nation at 8.00pm (local time) on Thursday.

"Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi will be addressing the nation at 8 PM today," the Prime Minister's Office said in a post on Twitter.

This comes two days after Parliament passed a resolution revoking certain provisions of Article 370 which granted special status to the state of Jammu and Kashmir, and passed a bill that bifurcates the state into two union territories - Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.

This will be Modi’s first address to the nation after the Centre’s decision on the fate of the Indian state.

This address comes less than 24-hours after Pakistan decided to downgrade diplomatic relations and suspend trade with India in retaliation to the government’s decision on Kashmir.
