
Qurayat: A contract was recently awarded for the establishment of a fish landing centre in the village of Bimmah in the Wilayat of Qurayat, Governorate of Muscat.
The project figures among food security initiatives undertaken by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources as part of its efforts to develop the infrastructure of the fishing sector and support fishermen.
Project manager Eng. Khulood bint Khalfan Al Sarmi said that the facility cost OMR2.4 million. She explained that the project deals with the construction a 434-metre main breakwater to protect boats from sea waves, a 183 secondary breakwater and a 10,500 square metre investment area for activities related to the fisheries sector.
Eng. Khulood told Oman News Agency (ONA) that the project is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2027. She added that the project will contribute to improving the working environment for fishermen, raising the efficiency of fish landing operations and enhancing economic activities of the local community.
