Moscow: The Kremlin on Wednesday congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi on becoming India’s longest-serving elected prime minister, praising his leadership and highlighting the country’s remarkable economic transformation under his tenure.
According to Indian media reports, Modi has surpassed India’s first prime minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, in terms of days served in office. Modi completed 4,399 days as prime minister on Wednesday, edging past Nehru’s record of 4,398 days.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said Modi’s tenure has been marked by significant socio-economic progress, pointing to the reported reduction in poverty levels across the country.
“During the rule of Modi, 250 million people have been pulled out of poverty. This is a very important indicator for India,” Peskov told reporters.
He also lauded India’s rapid economic rise, describing it as one of the world’s leading economies and among the fastest-growing nations globally.
“India has become one of the world’s leading economic powers with impressive rates of economic growth and development. Most importantly for us, it is a country with which we share partnership relations,” Peskov said.
The Kremlin official noted that ties between Russia and India continue to deepen across a wide range of sectors and expressed confidence that Modi would continue contributing to the expansion of bilateral cooperation.
Peskov added that relations between Moscow and New Delhi are advancing steadily in all key areas, reflecting the strength of the long-standing strategic partnership between the two countries.
