Mercury crosses 49°C during intense heatwave in Oman

Muscat: The summer heat has intensified dramatically across the Sultanate of Oman, with data revealing that temperatures crossed 49 degrees in the highest-recorded area.

According to the official monitoring report from the Civil Aviation Authority’s meteorological stations, the Wilayat of Barka registered a scorching peak of 49.1°C over a 24-hour period, marking the highest temperature nationwide.

Other regions across the country closely followed this severe spike, pushing mercury levels well into the upper 40s. Al Suwayq recorded a blistering 48.8°C, followed by Wadi Al Maawil at 48.0°C, while both Saham and Bidbid reached 47.9°C. Coastal and interior areas also experienced extreme conditions, with Bawsher registering 47.4°C, Sur hitting 47.3°C, Al Amerat at 47.2°C, Al Rustaq at 47.0°C, Dima Wa Tayeen at 46.9°C, and Muscat recording 46.7°C.
