Five-day Eid Al Adha break: Last-minute travel options still on table for travellers

MUSCAT: Haven’t made plans for Eid Al Adha yet? Don’t worry — a range of last-minute holiday deals are still available for citizens and expatriates living in Oman.

Whether you are craving a mountain escape in the cooler climes of Jabal Akhdar or looking at visa-friendly international destinations, travel operators say there is something to suit every preference this holiday season.

The Eid Al Adha 1447 AH holiday for employees in the State Administrative Apparatus, other legal entities and private sector establishments will begin on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, corresponding to 9 Dhul Hijjah 1447 AH. Official work will resume on Sunday, May 31.

With a five-day break on offer, many people are opting for self-drive holidays, enjoying the flexibility to explore hiking trails, mountain resorts and beaches at their own pace.

“The country’s diverse landscapes — from the cool heights of Jabal Akhdar to the beaches of Muscat — continue to attract families and weekend travellers,” said Manoj Didwania, a businessman planning to spend part of the Eid break in Jabal Akhdar.

Drivable destinations such as Jabal Akhdar are becoming increasingly popular among residents looking for quick and stress-free getaways closer to home.

At dusitD2 Naseem Resort, Jabal Akhdar, the focus this Eid is on family-friendly experiences.

Jagdeip Thakral, General Manager of dusitD2 Naseem Resort, Jabal Akhdar, said: “For Eid, we are offering a range of experiences designed for all ages. Guests can enjoy unlimited access to the Naseem Adventure Park, along with activities such as padel and Kids’ Club experiences for younger visitors.

“This Eid Al Adha, we are offering a special package starting from OMR85 plus taxes, including breakfast and unlimited access to the Adventure Park, the only full-fledged adventure park in Oman.

“As we approach the Eid break, we are seeing growing interest in staycations, particularly in destinations that offer cooler weather, nature and convenience for families travelling within the region.”

Travel agents say international destinations with simpler visa procedures are also seeing strong demand this year.

Soumava Mukherjee, General Manager of Travel City/Travel Point, said travel trends are shifting towards destinations offering faster online approvals and easier entry requirements.

“As Eid approaches, travellers are now looking at destinations where the process is faster and smoother,” he said.

According to him, Kenya, Istanbul, Kuala Lumpur and Kashmir are among the most sought-after destinations this year.

“In these destinations, the visa process is relatively easier and approvals are quicker compared to several European countries,” he added.

Several destinations popular among Oman residents now offer streamlined e-visa systems that allow travellers to complete most formalities online.

Another destination which is most sought-after from Oman is Maldives.

With the Maldives continuing to grow as a preferred short-haul luxury destination for travellers from Oman, Sun Siyam’s collection offers a mix of cultural experiences, private villa stays, wellness retreats and family-friendly escapes designed for couples, families and groups looking to make the Eid break feel more meaningful.

At Sun Siyam Iru Veli, Eid will be celebrated through experiences inspired by Maldivian heritage and island traditions. Guests can enjoy traditional evening tea at Magoodhoo Beach, discover the folklore story of Bodu Mas, and gather for Eid Farivalhu, a communal feast served on a classic Malaafaiy platter. The evening continues with a buffet dinner featuring both local and international cuisine, followed by the resort’s Maldivian Roots cultural performance and the rhythmic sounds of Boduberu drumming.

Travellers visiting during Eid can also take advantage of the resort’s summer offer, which includes complimentary seaplane transfers, spa privileges, family benefits and a curated selection of island experiences.

At Sun Siyam Iru Fushi, the atmosphere shifts towards a more refined island retreat. Guests are welcomed with Boduberu drumming and organic signature drinks, setting the tone for a relaxed escape from the moment they arrive. The newly renovated Water Villas with Pool offer added privacy, expansive decks and dedicated butler service, while experiences such as floating breakfasts, spa rituals at The Spa by Thalgo, Jet Car rides with drone coverage, White Soirees, Lobster Barbecue Nights and private cinema screenings under the stars elevate the stay.

For travellers looking for a more vibrant Eid atmosphere, Sun Siyam Olhuveli and Siyam World deliver lively island celebrations with beachside gatherings, sunset events, water adventures and nonstop entertainment across multiple islands. Those seeking a quieter island experience can head to Sun Siyam Vilu Reef, which offers a more intimate escape complete with complimentary seaplane transfers, floating breakfasts, dolphin cruises, spa credits and private experiences such as Cinema by Moonlight.

Beyond the Maldives, Sun Siyam Pasikudah in Sri Lanka offers Omani travellers a peaceful coastal retreat blending wellness, adventure and dining experiences, including spa sessions, kayaking, cycling excursions, room upgrade savings and romantic dining experiences tailored for couples and families.

Sun Siyam’s summer offers remain available for bookings until 31 August 2026, for stays through 31 October 2027. With convenient regional connectivity from Oman and a range of distinct island experiences, the collection offers travellers an effortless Eid escape centred around culture, relaxation, family time and island luxury.

Azerbaijan’s official ASAN Visa platform allows travellers to apply online without embassy visits, while Uzbekistan also offers an online e-visa facility for eligible travellers.

Thailand continues to remain a favourite among Oman residents due to its relatively smooth visa procedures and direct flight connectivity, according to travel agents.
