OCEC boosts sustainability through renewable energy

Muscat: Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre (OCEC) is implementing a solar panels project as a model for sustainability and energy conversion.

The project, which constitutes an integrated system with a capacity of 4.6 megawatts, covers an area of more than 16,000 square metres.

It was implemented by installing more than 8,000 high-efficiency solar panels, with an estimated annual production of about 7,000 megawatt-hours.

The project generates approximately 25 percent of the total electricity consumption of the centre.

The project helped cut down carbon emissions at the centre by more than 3,000 tonnes per annum.

Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre also implemented asystemofsolar panels for heating water. The project, which involved the installation of 250 solar panels, covers about 90% of the hot water needs of the centre, diminishes reliance on traditional electrical systems and limits energy consumption associated with heating processes.
