Oman crime: Drunken man murders liquor vendor in Sohar

Muscat: An argument between a customer and a liquor vendor ended in the death of the vendor after he was reportedly knifed by the inebriated customer in Sohar.
The murder occurred in Falaj Al Qaba’il in Sohar, where the victim was said to have been selling alcohol from the dormitory of the company he works for.
Lieutenant Colonel Abdullah Al Zaydi, Director of Inquiries and Criminal Investigations at the North Al Batinah Police Department, said the authorities arrest the murderer, who is an Asian national.
Another expatriate was also arrested, along with the murderer, for withholding information about the murder.
Five arrested
A senior Royal Oman Police (ROP) official from the Hafit Police force affiliated with the Buraimi Police Department said they have arrested five Asian nationals for detaining a woman against her will and assaulting her.
The source added that the victim was able to escape from the farm and filed a report with the police.
She said that she had arrived in Muscat on a domestic worker visa but escaped to Nizwa. She finally settled in Buraimi. A person detained her in one of the farms and assaulted her along with other suspects.
When the ROP questioned the suspects about their crimes, they confessed and were referred to the public prosecution to continue legal procedures.
The woman was also arrested for absconding and violating the labour law.
Drug trafficking attempt foiled
Customs officials, in cooperation with the Department of Narcotics Control at the Muscat International Airport, have arrested an Asian national for attempting to smuggle drugs, namely Tramadol, into the Sultanate.
Meanwhile, the Directorate of Narcotics Control from the North Al Batinah Police Department arrested an Asian national for possession, peddling, promoting and using narcotics, as well as entering the country illegally in Saham. He was said to be in possession of heroin.
Both suspects have been referred to the public prosecution.
