
Muscat: Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MTCIT) organised a workshop titled “Empowering Persons with Disabilities” in the transport sector, attended by H.E. Eng. Khamis bin Mohammed Al Shamakhi, Undersecretary for Transport, along with several CEOs of transport sector companies, representatives from the Ministry of Social Development, and other relevant government entities. The workshop aimed to strengthen service integration and enhance quality for persons with disabilities.
The session focused on improving coordination among stakeholders in the transport sector, analysing current challenges and gaps, and developing practical solutions to enhance service delivery, ensuring accessibility and equal opportunities for persons with disabilities.
Key topics included a review of the Law on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, which seeks to safeguard their rights, promote inclusion across various sectors, ensure equal opportunities, and remove environmental and societal barriers. The workshop also presented relevant statistics on persons with disabilities.
In addition, a panel discussion explored ways to empower persons with disabilities within the transport sector by highlighting future initiatives and examining implementation mechanisms to support sustainable and inclusive service development.
This workshop forms part of the ministry’s ongoing efforts to strengthen partnerships with various stakeholders and to advance an inclusive transport system that meets the needs of all segments of society.
