
Al Buraimi: A specialised seminar showcased successful Omani experiences in transforming heritage neighbourhoods “Quarters” into sustainable investment projects and affirmed the importance of heritage as a fundamental pillar for supporting the national economy and providing employment opportunities, while preserving Omani architectural identity.
The symposium was organized today by the Directorate of Heritage and Tourism in Al Buraimi Governorate.
A working paper titled "Revitalization of Al Aqr Neighbourhood in the Wilayat of Nizwa" indicated that the project represents an inspiring success story that has contributed to transforming the area into a value-added asset and generating tangible economic impact. It noted that the project has preserved the architectural identity of the wilayat and contributed to an increase in the site's market value, rendering it a model to be emulated in tourism investment.
Another working paper, "Al Suwajra Village," examined the village's experience as a model of tourism investment based on leveraging natural and historical assets to create a distinctive tourist destination. Meanwhile, a workshop titled "Hammasa Neighbourhood: A Past We Preserve and a Future We Build" focused on developmental visions for historical areas.
A working paper entitled "Clay is Identity: Sustainable Solutions for the Restoration of Heritage Buildings and the Enhancement of Community Awareness" addressed the importance of using authentic materials in the restoration of heritage buildings, thereby reinforcing sustainability and preserving identity.
