Talks between Iran and Pakistan to continue in Tehran

Iran's state media said that talks between the Iranian government and a visiting delegation from Pakistan would continue on Thursday.

Iran's foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi, took part in a preliminary meeting with Asim Munir, Pakistan's army chief of staff, in Tehran on Wednesday.

Munir is seen as one of the most influential intermediaries between the United States and Iran.

Pakistan hopes to mediate a second round of negotiations between the United States and Iran after the first round of talks last weekend failed to reach a peace deal.

The White House said on Wednesday that any further talks would likely take place in Pakistan's capital, Islamabad.

The ceasefire between the US and Iran, which came into effect on April 8, is due to expire next Wednesday.
