A’Rustaq: Nama Water Services has completed the executive works for the water network construction project in the Wilayat of A’Rustaq. This step reflects the company's continuous commitment to developing the infrastructure of the water sector and enhancing the sustainability of supplies to keep pace with population growth and urban expansion across the wilayats of the Sultanate of Oman.
The networks are currently undergoing quality testing and sterilization in preparation for commercial operation, which will facilitate the supply of water through the network to beneficiaries in the near future.
The project is considered a vital initiative aimed at improving the water distribution system in several areas of the wilayat, including Al Iraqi, Hai Al Sarh, and Al Dahas, in addition to the industrial area. It has significantly contributed to raising network efficiency, establishing new distribution networks, and enhancing service reliability for subscribers in both existing and planned residential layouts.
Eng. Badr Salim Al Rabaani, the Project Manager, clarified that the implementation of the project began in September 2023 at a total cost of approximately RO 2.3 million. He pointed out that the project constitutes a qualitative addition to the local infrastructure through its integrated technical and engineering works.
In a statement to Oman News Agency (ONA), Al Rabaani explained that the project included the implementation of a water network using High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) pipes of various diameters, with a total length of approximately 61 kilometers. This is in addition to constructing a main distribution line utilizing Ductile Iron (DI) pipes with a diameter of 400 mm and a length of 4 kilometers. These upgrades have bolstered the operational capacity of the network and contributed to improving the overall efficiency of water transmission and distribution.
He added that the project involved executing over 1,315 household connections, successfully extending the service to more than 6,500 beneficiaries. Furthermore, the work included the installation of fire hydrants, isolation and air valves, washouts, and pressure monitoring points, ensuring the sustainable operation of the network in accordance with the highest safety and efficiency standards.
Al Rabaani indicated that the scope of work also covered the construction of wadi crossings and internal road intersections, alongside the associated civil, mechanical, and electrical works. All phases were executed according to the best engineering practices to guarantee the project's quality and long-term sustainability.
The completion of this project falls within Nama Water Services' ongoing efforts to enhance the readiness of water networks across the various governorates of Oman and to achieve comprehensive service coverage. This ultimately supports sustainable development plans and elevates the quality of services provided to citizens and residents.
Moving forward, the project is expected to continue improving the efficiency of the existing network, raising the level of reliability in water distribution, and meeting the growing demand for water services in the wilayat over the coming years.
