Oman receive OMR86,500 approx from T20 World Cup participation

MUSCAT: Oman, who had a disappointing campaign in the recently-concluded ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, jointly organised by India and Sri Lanka, received $225,000 (OMR86,500 approx) from the International Cricket Council (ICC).

Following the successful conclusion of the tournament, the International Cricket Council (ICC) in a press release on Wednesday confirmed the final distribution of the 20-nation tournament’s US$11.25 million players’ prize money pool, in line with the record-breaking increase to ICC prize money made in 2024.

Oman along with Namibia and Canada received the same amount of US$225,000 each. Led by Jatinder Singh, Oman suffered defeats in all their group stage matches. Oman, placed in Group B, lost to Zimbabwe in their opener before Sri Lanka, Ireland and Australia defeated them.

World Cup champions India, who became the first team to defend the title, received the highest prize money of US$2,639,423, followed by New Zealand (runner-up) with $1,422,692, and South Africa (third) with $1,005,577.

England received $974,423 while West Indies got $538,269 and Pakistan received $522,692. Zimbabwe the surprise Super Eight entrant received $491,538 while co-hosts Sri Lanka got $475,962.

Afghanistan, Australia, and the United States of America each received $309,808. All three countries failed to make it to the group stage.

Scotland received $278,654, and Ireland received $271,731.

Italy, the Netherlands, UAE and Nepal each received about $256,154 from the tournament pool.

Each team in the tournament was guaranteed a base participation payment of $225,000, with additional earnings determined by final standings and results achieved during the event.

The distribution follows the record increase in tournament prize money announced by the ICC in 2024. The figures reflect earnings accumulated across the group stage, Super 8s, semi-finals and final.

The ICC stated that the figures represent gross prize money accumulated through participation payments, match-win bonuses and progression through the various stages of the competition.
