Mining forum to focus on investment avenues

Muscat: The Public Authority for Mining (PAM) will organise a mining forum in of Salalah on Monday to invest in the sector and its role in the development of the national economy.
The opening of the forum will be held under the patronage of Sayyid Mohammed bin Sultan Al Busaidi, Minister of State and Governor of Dhofar.
The forum will discuss a number of themes, namely the mineral wealth law, which includes the main approaches adopted by PAM to develop the mining sector related to increasing the competitiveness of the sector for investment, facilitating and speeding up the procedures for obtaining the mining approvals, in addition to preparing integrated mining areas and opening them for bidding on the basis of equality of opportunity, openness and transparency and the commitment of the sector to contribute to the development of the local community.
The forum will discuss the promising mining areas, as PAM provides promising mining sites for investors with spaces that allow large investments that can contribute to the diversification policy adopted by the Sultanate.
The forum addresses the Oman Mining Strategy which aims at achieving four main strategic themes, namely maximising the economic value of the mining sector, managing sustainable development and optimising mineral resources, developing national assets and capabilities to ensure long-term excellence and maximising the contribution of the mining sector to raising the standard of living.
The forum will also discuss the role of geological research and studies in mining investment, a study on the reciprocal relationship between mining companies and local communities and the impact of this relationship on the growth and prosperity of mining activities in the Sultanate. The forum will also include a panel discussion with investors and interested persons in the sector.
It is worth mentioning that PAM will open the five-day Mining exhibition at the Municipality Recreational Centre in the Governorate of Dhofar next Monday under the patronage of Sheikh Salem bin Uffait Al Shanfari, Head of Dhofar Municipality. The exhibition targets all sectors of society as well as investors and interested persons in the field.
