Ramadan working hours announced in Oman

Muscat: The Ministry of Labour has formally issued the official working schedule for the blessed month of Ramadan, 1447 AH, applying to both the civil units of the State's Administrative Apparatus and private sector establishments.

The guidelines are as follows:

I. Civil Units of the State’s Administrative Apparatus:

A- Official Working Hours: The standard daily schedule is set at five consecutive hours, from 9 am to 2 pm.

B- Flexible Working Arrangements: Unit heads are authorized to implement a flexible schedule. Employee start and end times may be adjusted to suit operational needs within a designated window from 7 am to 3 pm. Working hours will be calculated from individual arrival to departure, in accordance with each unit's established procedures.

C- Remote Work: Unit heads may implement remote work for roles where duties permit, provided it does not disrupt workflow. A minimum of 50% of the unit's total staff must be physically present at the workplace at all times.

II. Private Sector Establishments:

The working day for Muslim employees in the private sector is reduced to a maximum of six hours per day, not exceeding a total of thirty hours per week.

The Ministry further encouraged private sector entities to adopt modern working methods, including flexible schedules and remote work where feasible. This approach aims to enhance productivity while respecting the distinctive spiritual character of the holy month.
