Alamat exhibition opens at Al Mirani and Muttrah Forts

Muscat: The Alamat (Signs) exhibition opened on Monday at Al Mirani and Muttrah Forts and will run until 28 January 2026.

The event celebrates young Omani graphic design talent and serves as the culmination of the Alamat Lab for graphic design. The opening was held under the auspices of Qais Mohammed Al Yousef, Chairman of the Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones (Opaz).

The exhibition is the result of a two-week intensive training programme that brought together an elite group of Omani and Arab artists and experts. They conducted specialised workshops for 40 male and female designers, covering fields such as typography, poster design, and talent management within the labour market, aimed at refining skills and enhancing professional practices among young designers.

The exhibition features a collection of posters designed by participants during the lab workshops, along with other artworks. These pieces reflect diverse visual experiences inspired by local cultural transformations, invoking dimensions of historical heritage within a contemporary framework.

This initiative, which blends specialised training with artistic display, contributes to building human resource capacity in alignment with efforts to establish and solidify creative industries in the Sultanate of Oman.

Accompanying the exhibition is a series of live activities and lectures open to the public, aimed at enhancing community interaction with graphic design and typography as tools for cultural and social expression.

The Chairman of Opaz emphasised that the displayed works reflect an advanced level of artistic awareness and an ability to express ideas through innovative methods. He noted that initiatives merging intensive training with artistic exhibition contribute to preparing specialised national cadres and enhance the role of creative industries in supporting the national economy.

He added that design and visual arts are fundamental pillars in building brands and tourism destinations, areas receiving growing attention in the Sultanate of Oman through an integrated system of national programmes and initiatives that support innovation.
