Muscat: A powerful cold air mass has begun affecting the Sultanate of Oman, bringing a sharp drop in temperatures and active wind conditions across most governorates. The Civil Aviation Authority issued a weather advisory warning of significant changes starting Tuesday, December 30.
According to the National Center for Early Warning of Multiple Hazards, temperatures have already fallen noticeably compared to Monday. Muscat saw a decline from 21°C to 16°C, while Haima dropped from 17°C to 11°C. In the mountainous region of Jabal Shams, temperatures plunged from 4°C to a frigid 1.5°C, raising concerns about potential frost formation.
The advisory also highlighted several expected weather phenomena:
- Reduced visibility due to dust and active winds
- Noticeable cold with a chance of frost in elevated areas
- Strong winds capable of stirring up sand and dust
A pressure map released with the advisory shows the cold air mass advancing across the country, with the low-pressure system expected to shift away by December 31. Residents are urged to take precautions, especially in exposed and high-altitude areas.
