Credit granted by Oman’s banking sector rises by 8.6%

Muscat: The total credit granted by conventional commercial banks in the Sultanate of Oman at the end of October 2025 recorded an increase of 8.6 percent, while credit granted to the private sector increased by 4.4 percent to reach OMR21.6 billion.

Regarding the investment item, the total investments of conventional commercial banks in securities witnessed an increase of 5.9 percent, reaching approximately OMR6.5 billion by the end of October 2025.

Within this, investment in government development bonds (GDBs) recorded an increase of 10.6 percent to reach OMR2.1 billion compared to the same period last year. As for the investments of these banks in foreign securities, they decreased by 3.9 percent to reach OMR2.4 billion by the end of October 2025.

On the other liabilities side, total deposits with conventional commercial banks increased by 1.4 percent to reach OMR25.7 billion by the end of October 2025.

Within total deposits, government deposits with commercial banks recorded an increase of 9.8 percent to reach approximately OMR5.9 billion, while deposits of public sector institutions decreased by 44.7 percent to reach approximately OMR1.5 billion during the same period.

Private sector deposits recorded an increase of 8.4 percent to reach OMR17.4 billion in October 2025, constituting 67.5 percent of total deposits with conventional commercial banks.

Assets of Islamic banks rise 
Meanwhile, the total assets of Islamic banks and windows in Oman combined rose to about OMR9.2 billion, or 19.5 percent of the total assets of the banking sector in the Sultanate of Oman by the end of October 2025. This is an increase of 10.8 percent compared to the same period last year.

As for the total balance of financing granted by the units that carry out this activity, it recorded an increase of 10.4 percent to reach approximately OMR7.4 billion.

Deposits at Islamic banks and windows also recorded an increase of 11.9 percent, reaching approximately OMR7.3 billion by the end of October 2025. - ONA
