Government staff in Oman get cybersecurity training

Muscat: Over one hundred government trainees from 40 government agencies have received training in advanced cybersecurity during the first half of 2019.
The Advanced Cybersecurity Academy in Oman is the first academy that trains locals in advanced cybersecurity and began operating in November 2018 in a partnership with the Public Authority for Privatisation and Partnership, the Higher College of Technology, and a number of specialised international companies.
A statement by the Public Authority for Privatisation and Partnership said: “The Advanced Cybersecurity Academy delivered nine courses during the first half of 2019 which have trained 138 trainees from 40 government agencies.”
According to the authority, these courses “support trainees with the skills and experience necessary to halt any cyberattacks or hacking attempts and to face any security challenges in the cyber world, and to end the danger of digital threats.”
The academy provides courses aimed to reinforce scientific research and creativity in cybersecurity. “The courses aim to train and qualify the trainees in cybersecurity according to global professional standards of training institution,” the statement by PAPP added.
Dr Ahmed Al Kalbani, dean of the academy, said: “The Advanced Cybersecurity Academy has provided 10 training courses for trainers and the academy currently runs two programmes, one of which is in basic cybersecurity, while the other focuses on cybersecurity for directors.”
According to Al Khalbani, over a dozen other programmes that include intellectual property have been approved to be applied and taught this year.
“Fourteen training programmes have also been approved in cybersecurity with intellectual property [protection skills], which reflects the practical application of in executing these programmes to be best aligned with the requirements of different work environments. These programmes will begin to be offered step by step starting from the third quarter of this year,” Al Kalbani added.
