Muscat: The Oman Medical Specialty Board (OMSB) organised on Wednesday the Annual Career Guidance and Scientific Research Forum 2025/2026 at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre. This event is part of its efforts to enhance advanced medical training programs and establish a culture of scientific research across various medical specialties.
The forum's opening ceremony was held under the auspices of Dr. Jokha bint Abdullah Al Shukaili, CEO of Oman Authority for Academic Accreditation and Quality Assurance of Education, with the presence of Dr. Fatma bint Mohammed Al Ajmi, CEO of OMSB, and a number of academic body members, educational committees, resident doctors, and medical students.
The forum began with a visual presentation of the OMSB's five-year strategic plan, followed by a presentation about "Horizons of Artificial Intelligence in Clinical Research".
Afterwards, the chief guest inaugurated the accompanying exhibition which showcased 21 specialised training programmes, 7 local fellowship programmes and the General Foundation Programme. The inauguration included corners for the Board's departments, the Medical Simulation and Innovation Centre, the Oman Medical Journal, and the Tajawob platform (a national platform for suggestions and complaints), along with several participating government institutions.
The forum's activities included discussions with doctors on the importance of selecting a medical specialty and its impact on the career path. This contributes to supporting medical students and enabling them to make informed professional decisions that meet the needs of the national health sector. The accompanying exhibition attracted more than 821 participants from medical and dental college students and interns, who were able to learn about the Board's programs and interact with faculty members and resident doctors.
The forum also hosted a Scientific Research and Poster Competition, where 53 medical research papers qualified this year, including 19 presentations and 34 scientific posters. The goal is to enhance doctors' skills in scientific research and publishing their results in peer-reviewed journals, and to develop their abilities to analyse professional challenges and devise appropriate solutions.
