Oman’s number one driver ‘very proud’ to be named Sports Racer of the Year

Muscat: Ahmad Al Harthy has capped off a strong third year in the FIA World Endurance Championship in style, having been named the category’s ‘Sports Racer of the Year’ following the conclusion of the 2025 season this past weekend.

Absolutely delighted to receive the award, which was presented to the Omani following the eighth and final round of the campaign at Bahrain International Circuit, Al Harthy says he was surprised and thrilled in equal measure.

Most pleasingly for Al Harthy – who has enjoyed vital support this season from prestigious partners OQ Group, Sohar International, Omantel, Oman LNG, BMW Oman, Oman Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth and Experience Oman – is being recognised by the FIA WEC from an LMGT3 class field which featured more than 30 drivers. The combined entry was well over 60 competitors this year.

Ending the 2025 season eighth in the FIA World Endurance Championship LMGT3 Driver Standings, Al Harthy and Team WRT team-mates Valentino Rossi and Kelvin van der Linde raced to a pair of podium finishes over the course of the eight rounds.

Extremely close to taking LMGT3 race victory at Imola in Italy, round two, and at the Circuit of the Americas in the USA, round six, the trio concluded the season just a couple of points shy of seventh place in the championship in the No.46 BMW M4 LMGT3.

Al Harthy also proved his pace and competitiveness in qualifying across the season, progressing to the Hyperpole ‘shoot out’ session six times. In round two at Imola, the Omani was actually fastest in regular qualifying and Rossi went on to ensure pole position there during the subsequent Hyperpole.

Ahmad Al Harthy said: “To be presented with the Sports Racer of the Year award was a big surprise, I’m very proud to have received the award from WEC themselves and obviously very happy. To have been recognised, from all of the many drivers on such a world-class grid, is very special for me personally and for everyone from Oman who has again supported me so strongly this season.

“It’s wonderful to end the year this way, it was a very nice ceremony and the trophy will sit very proudly with the other FIA WEC trophies we’ve earned over the past three seasons racing in the World Championship.”
