Green Innovation Hackathon launched in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate

Manah: The activities of the Green Innovation Hackathon competition began on Tuesday at the Oman Across Ages Museum in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate. The hackathon is titled "Creative Solutions for Recycling Glass and Marble Waste".

The competition is organised by the Directorate of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion in the Governorate, in partnership with a number of private sector companies, and will continue for three days.

The opening ceremony was held under the auspices of Dr. Saleh Said Masan, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion for Commerce and Industry. It features the participation of 36 female students from the University of Nizwa and the University of Technology and Applied Sciences in Nizwa.

The Hackathon competition includes a number of workshops to transform ideas into application and create new environmentally friendly products.

The Hackathon is expected to produce innovative ideas ready for development and implementation in the field of recycling glass and marble waste and initial prototypes or preliminary designs for the submitted ideas. It will also qualify students in the fields of environmental innovation, sustainable entrepreneurship, solution design, and prototype building.

The event contributes in the discovery of promising youth talents that can be supported in the future. It also helps in developing recommendations for the authorities concerned with inorganic waste in the Sultanate of Oman.

The Hackathon aims to find sustainable creative solutions for recycling glass and marble waste and converting them into products of economic and environmental value; Identify practical solutions to reduce environmental pollution resulting from the accumulation of inorganic waste like glass and marble and build bridges of cooperation between governmental, academic, and community entities in supporting environmental innovation.
