Muscat: Twenty-five year-old Mohammad Rocky had welcomed his first child just four months ago.
Bangladesh Social Club members said that only an hour before the accident, Rocky had made a video call to see his infant daughter.
It was the last time he saw her — he never got the chance to hold his beloved child in his arms.
Eight Bangladeshi expatriates lost their lives in a tragic road accident in the Sidda area of Duqm on Wednesday, October 8.
Among the deceased was Rocky, who was working in Oman to support his family back home. His sudden passing has left relatives and friends in deep shock and sorrow.
Chairman of the Bangladesh Social Club in Oman, Sirajul Haque, said, “Unfortunately, all the dead were Bangladeshi expatriates who were going to their work site in Duqm. Their names are: Amin Sawdagar, Arju, Mohammad Rocky, Mohammed Bablu, Mohammad Sahabuddin, Jewel and Roni. They were all from the Chattogram region of Bangladesh.”
Talking about the accident, Haque said the vehicle carrying the workers collided with a large fishing container truck, leaving eight Bangladeshi workers dead and the driver critically injured. “The injured driver was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment,” he added.
Officials from the Bangladesh Embassy in Muscat are taking necessary measures to repatriate the bodies to Bangladesh following due procedures. The accident occurred around 3:20 pm on Wednesday.
The father of the deceased, Jewel, Jamaluddin Sarkar, made a fervent appeal in the local newspapers of Bangladesh, saying: “My son went abroad to feed his family. Now, I just want his body to be brought back home so that I can see his face for the last last time.”
Earlier, Oman’s Ministry of Health confirmed that eight persons were killed and two others injured in the Duqm accident.
The tragedy has left the expatriate community in shock. Expats recalled that in 2021, five others lost their lives in a similar accident at the same spot after returning from fishing. “It seems like the same tragedy has repeated itself,” one of them said.
Immediately after the accident, embassy representatives arrived at the scene. Members of the Bangladesh Social Club added, “The police have stated that their investigation report will be submitted very soon. Once it is ready, the bodies will be repatriated to Bangladesh.”
