Muscat: The Royal Oman Police (ROP) has warned citizens and residents not to consume bottled water of the brand Uranus Star, originating from the Islamic Republic of Iran, after two people died in a poisoning incident in North Al Batinah Governorate.
The ROP confirmed that the incident occurred on 29 September 2025 in the Wilayat of Suwaiq, where an Omani family and an expatriate woman consumed the contaminated water. The expatriate woman died shortly after, while an Omani citizen was hospitalized in critical condition.
Despite medical efforts, the police later announced that the citizen also passed away. Another woman affected by the poisoning has since recovered.
Following the report, the ROP, in coordination with the relevant authorities, collected samples of the bottled water for testing.
Laboratory results confirmed the presence of contamination. Consequently, authorities have begun withdrawing all bottles of the Uranus Star brand from local markets and have banned the import of all types of bottled water from Iran as a precautionary measure.
The ROP urged the public to refrain from using the contaminated product and to immediately report any suspicions related to this or other bottled water brands to the authorities. Investigations into the case are still ongoing.
