Death toll rises in poisoning incident linked to contaminated bottled water

Muscat — The Royal Oman Police (ROP) has confirmed that the death toll from the poisoning incident in North Al Batinah has risen to two, following the passing of an Omani citizen who was initially hospitalized in critical condition.

The incident, which occurred on 29 September 2025 in the Wilayat of Al Suwaiq, was traced to contaminated bottled water imported from the Islamic Republic of Iran. Laboratory analysis confirmed the presence of harmful substances in the product.

The poisoning claimed the life of an expatriate woman shortly after the incident, while the Omani victim succumbed to complications despite receiving intensive medical care.

In response, the ROP, in coordination with relevant authorities, has ordered the immediate withdrawal of the contaminated brand from local markets and imposed strict precautionary measures to safeguard public health. Furthermore, the government has enforced a ban on the import of all bottled water from Iran.

Authorities urged citizens and residents to avoid the contaminated brand and to report any suspected cases of unsafe bottled water or consumables to the competent authorities without delay.
