New York: Her Excellency, President of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
Honorable heads and members of delegations, distinguished attendees,
Today, the international community faces a wide range of vital issues that trouble the conscience of humanity and require genuine cooperation to address them, in a spirit of responsibility and cooperation. The Sultanate of Oman has, on numerous occasions, expressed its clear vision and positions on these issues, foremost among them the climate crisis and the transition to clean energy sources, in addition to the call to invest in new opportunities in the fields of trade and sustainable development.
However, there is a deeply wounding humanitarian and political issue that still stands at the forefront of urgent priorities and must take precedence over all others in our deliberations and decisions: the Palestinian issue.
The time has passed, the suffering has intensified, and the flood has reached the limit. The time has come to end the occupation, lift the injustice, and restore the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people by implementing the two-state solution, as it is the just and only path towards a lasting and comprehensive peace that ends decades of conflict and deprivation.
The Sultanate of Oman believes that a just peace is a fundamental pillar for sustainable security, stability, and development. From this perspective, the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital must be at the forefront of strategic priorities for achieving just and lasting peace in the Middle East. Therefore, recognizing the State of Palestine is the most important step at this critical stage in the history of the Palestinian cause.
The Sultanate of Oman expresses its deep appreciation to the governments that took this step, which consolidates respect for international law and is consistent with the United Nations Charter and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Recognizing Palestine also embodies the international community's commitment to the two-state solution, as stipulated in United Nations resolutions, the outcomes of the Two-State Solution Conference, and the New York Declaration, under the auspices of the United Nations.
Honorable heads and members of delegations
Distinguished Delegates
The Sultanate of Oman is committed to its firm policy of achieving security and just peace in the region. It has notable initiatives and achievements in this regard, and it continues its efforts and constructive cooperation with all parties and partners to achieve this noble goal for the benefit of all.
Today, we celebrate the eightieth anniversary of the founding of the United Nations, an international body that embodies our collective commitment to working for peace and resolving conflicts through dialogue and peaceful, legal means.
However, Israel continues to persist in ignoring the calls of the international community and refuses to engage in a serious dialogue that would lead to a just and comprehensive solution. Its continued use of force and the suppression of the voice of reason threatens the credibility of the international system. Therefore, our shared responsibility requires us to redouble our efforts and exert effective pressure to push Israel to the dialogue table and make it understand that the path to peace cannot be charted by dictates or the imposition of a fait accompli, but rather by mutual understanding and respect for international law and the rights of peoples.
My country, the Sultanate of Oman, calls on the international community to take measures to restrict the Israeli government's ability to continue its policy of genocide, destruction, and illegal occupation of Palestinian territories, as well as its continued policy of starvation, imposing a siege on the Palestinian people, and preventing the delivery of humanitarian aid to them.
From this platform, we call for a peaceful global campaign to lift the siege and injustice against the Palestinian people, and to liberate them by establishing an independent, sovereign Palestinian state.
Dear guests
Based on its firm positions and established principles based on supporting regional peace and stability, and its categorical rejection of any infringement on the sovereignty of states, the Sultanate of Oman affirms its solidarity and support for the sisterly State of Qatar in its deterrent measures to preserve its security and full sovereignty over its territories, reiterating its condemnation of the Israeli aggression against it on September 9. We also reiterate our condemnation of the Israeli aggression against Iran, Yemen, Syria and Lebanon, and call for the imposition of sanctions on Israel, as a result of its flagrant violations of international law and its unlawful infringement on the sovereignty of states.
Dear Distinguished Delegates
The international community, particularly the permanent members of the Security Council, must enable the Secretary-General to fulfill his role in fulfilling the purposes of the United Nations Charter in the field of international peace and security, as well as provide him with the necessary cooperation to achieve the goals of sustainable development, especially with regard to stimulating comprehensive economic growth for nations, providing job opportunities, and encouraging innovation, thus contributing to revitalizing the global partnership for development, combating poverty and disease, and achieving food, health, and energy security.
The Sultanate of Oman gives special priority to education and health, as they are two basic rights for all and two main pillars of development. We also pay great attention to digital transformation, along with applications of artificial intelligence, innovation, and manufacturing, and to consolidating the system of protection, social justice, and job security.
On the other hand, the Sultanate of Oman affirms its continuous support for youth and their empowerment with science and knowledge, as they are the cornerstone of development and the driving force behind innovation, growth, and the knowledge economy. We continue to work to create and diversify opportunities, enabling them to utilize their skills and contribute to building the future.
Dear guests
The world is today going through one of the most complex and difficult periods, as international crises increase, and political, economic and humanitarian challenges intersect in an unprecedented manner.
Amid these critical circumstances, we witness a clear inability of the international community to make decisive and effective decisions that contribute to defusing conflicts, alleviating the suffering of affected peoples, and addressing crises with a comprehensive and just perspective. However, despite these challenges, what we are experiencing today represents a real opportunity for us to correct the course and renew the foundations of joint international action towards a future of justice and fairness.
In this General Assembly, let us renew our sincere, collective commitment to international law, international humanitarian law, and the established principles of the United Nations Charter. We call for strengthening the role of this international organization and all its subsidiary institutions, enabling them to play a greater role in consolidating international peace and security, spreading the umbrella of sustainable development, and fostering a culture of justice, tolerance, and mutual respect. This is the path to realizing peoples' aspirations for freedom, achieving prosperity, and crafting a prosperous future characterized by fairness and stability
