Alizz Islamic Bank celebrates the International Day of Sign Language

As part of the banks ‘Alizz Cares’ program and underscoring its commitment to fostering inclusivity, empowering communities and enhancing the quality of life, Alizz Islamic Bank recently celebrated the ‘International Day of Sign Language’ by hosting an interactive workshop on the fundamentals of sign language, conducted by Mr. Said Al Badai, General Manager of Al Tawasul Institute for Training. The session brought together more than 25 employees of the bank for an engaging and informative session.

Mr. Said Al Badai is a long-standing advocate for people with hearing and speech impairments and is recognised as one of the first Omanis to learn sign language. Through his efforts, he has created opportunities for many to follow in his path and created a safe haven for many individuals. His distinguished career includes serving as a interpretor for the United Nations and Oman TV.

The workshop highlighted the importance of a universal language in bridging communication barriers. Mr. Said emphasised that individuals with hearing and speech impairments often face significant challenges in communication which leads to frustration. He called on society to adapt to their needs rather than the other way around as they are an integral part of our community, similarly to any other individual.

Speaking about the initiative Lina Al Abdulsalaam, Head of Marketing & Communications at Alizz Islamic Bank said “True inclusion means recognising people for their talents and shared purpose. At Alizz Islamic Bank, we are committed to bridging the gap between people with special needs and the wider community. We believe in the power of acceptance and ensure our employees embrace this value by seeing individuals for who they truly are. This is why we encourage our team to learn sign language, so every customer who walks through our doors feels understood and welcomed .”

Alizz Islamic Bank has played a leading role in creating an environment to facilitate financial inclusivity and is dedicated to continuing to remove barriers and simplify access to financial services for all. In line with the commitment to empowering the community, Alizz Islamic Bank has formed a strategic partnership with SignBook and Al Tawasul Institute for Training.
