Oman bans import of live poultry from three countries

Muscat: Oman has implemented a ban on the import of live poultry and their products from three countries — Malaysia, Vietnam, and Cambodia — the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries Wealth (MoAFW) has announced.
Information on why the ban was placed wasn’t made available, but officials did say that it was done based on the recommendation of a “veterinarian authority”.
According to the Ministry’s statement, “A ministerial decision has banned the import of live poultry and their products from Malaysia, the Kingdom of Cambodia, and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
“This decision is based on a recommendation of the concerned veterinarian authority, and will remain until the reason for the ban disappears,” the statement added.
An official from MoAFW said, “The concerned authority in this case is an international board, which coordinated with the ministry before giving their recommendation, followed by our ministerial decision.”
