Environment Authority eliminates over 12,500 invasive birds

Muscat: Field teams from the Environment Authority in South Al Batinah Governorate have successfully eliminated 12,597 invasive birds in the Sultanate of Oman over the past two months. The operation is part of the second phase of the National Campaign to Combat Invasive Birds (Mynah and Indian Crow), which resumed in early July.

According to Issa bin Abdullah Al Yahmadi, Chairman of the Sub-Committee for Combating Invasive Birds, the campaign aims to protect the local environment and conserve biodiversity. Invasive birds, such as mynahs and Indian crows, pose a threat by competing with native species for food and habitats, which can lead to the decline or extinction of local wildlife.

The campaign uses approved methods that adhere to environmental standards and ensure the safety of other species. The initiative is a collaborative effort between the Environment Authority, relevant authorities, and the local community, all working to protect natural resources and support sustainable development.
