Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman has joined the world in celebrating the International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies, which was declared by the United Nations on September 7 of each year to raise global awareness about air pollution and the need to join efforts for a cleaner environment and better health.
This year’s theme is “Pursuing Air… Every Breath Matters,” emphasising that clean air is a basic human right and that every breath you take represents a motivation for urgent action to protect the health of individuals and the planet.
The Sultanate of Oman is enhancing its efforts to protect clean air, in line with Oman Vision 2040, which has made environmental sustainability a fundamental pillar of comprehensive development.
This is achieved by strengthening environmental legislation, adopting innovative solutions, and encouraging the transition to clean and sustainable energy.
In this regard, the Environment Authority recently launched the "Naqi" platform to monitor air quality across the Sultanate of Oman's governorates.
This represents a significant step towards enhancing transparency and providing accurate, direct data to the public on air quality levels.
This will contribute to raising community awareness and empowering individuals and institutions to participate in environmental protection.
The Environment Authority has launched awareness campaigns across various media platforms and social media, in addition to organising field events in cooperation with educational institutions and relevant entities, to spread a culture of concern for air quality and encourage positive behaviors that contribute to reducing emissions and maintaining a clean atmosphere.
It emphasises that celebrating the International Day of Clean Air represents an important milestone in renewing our commitment to collective action for a clean and healthy environment, and a significant step toward achieving a sustainable future for future generations.
