Muscat: Students and staff of the Pakistan School in Seeb learnt some fire fighting skills by watching live demonstrations displayed by the Royal Oman Police (ROP) and the Public Authority of Civil Defence and Ambulance (PACDA) at the school premises.
The aim of the exercise was to educate the students and staff about fire safety skills so that when a fire situation arises, they are able to carry out the procedure by themselves, safely and efficiently.
“It was a wonderful experience for everyone at school to see the Royal Oman Police and Civil Defence team performing live in school. This practice has enabled our staff to understand defend-in-place strategies so that they can take advantage of the school’s fire safety features and egress facilities to protect the people around,” a press release from the school stated.
The programme started with a lecture by a PACDA officer, emphasising the importance of awareness about fire safety, precautions and the usage of fire extinguishing equipment.
In the second part of the programme, another PACDA personnel gave a practical drill demonstration, which was seen by all students and staff at the school. Participants were taught how to react initially in case of a fire and exit the building.
PACDA also brought along two ambulances and a fire truck to showcase the live drill. Officers from the authority later set a fire in a corner of the school premises and illustrated effective ways of putting it out.
Paramedics from the Civil Defence Department also showed how to deal with fire injuries and help the injured by giving some initial medical help and performing Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
The school management praised the professionalism of PACDA and ROP officials and expressed their gratitude to the two organisations.
