Speaking to Times of Oman the PACDA official said: "A citizen has died last night [ July 9 ] after downing in Wadi Darbat, locals in the area extracted his body before the rescue team arrived. When they arrived on site, the team tried to resuscitate him but he was already deceased."

Wadi Darbat is located in the Governorate of Dhofar, just 30 minutes drive from Salalah.

Earlier this month, PACDA issued guidelines to prevent drowning incidents. According to the Authority, there were 268 water rescue operations in 2016, while in 2017 the figure fell to 173, then last year, the authority recorded just 155 incidents.

The areas where the majority of the water rescues took place are the ocean, in wadis during rainfall, dams, water ponds and open water tanks.
