Muscat: Dylan Frittelli sealed a second European Challenge Tour victory in timely fashion in the Rolex Trophy to help him surge towards the summit of the Road to Oman and in the process secured his place in the season-ending NBO Golf Classic Grand Final, which takes place in Oman at the stunning Almouj Golf from November 2 to 5.
The South African’s dramatic two-stroke triumph has helped him climb from 13th to third in the Road to Oman Rankings which gives him a fantastic opportunity of finishing in the top 15 on this season’s Challenge Tour and securing a European Tour card after the grand finale in Muscat, as well as winning a share of the €60,000 Road to Oman Bonus Pool on offer for the top three players.
With only eight events remaining before the prestigious event at Almouj Golf takes place, the in-form Frittelli is excited about the prospect of featuring on the European Tour next season.
The 26 year old said: “This win will get me right up there in the Road to Oman Rankings and then if I can do well in the final swing of the season I should hopefully be able to cement my place in the top 15.”
New Zealand’s Ryan Fox finished joint runner-up with Spain’s Pep Angles at the Golf Club de Genève which has bolstered the Olympian’s chances of topping the Road to Oman Rankings, as the 18,500 points he claimed has helped him rise from fourth to second position.
He’s now only 6,584 points behind current leader Frenchman Romain Langasque, while Angles also made a significant climb in the Rankings, rising from 35th to 21st as he hunts down a spot in the NBO Golf Classic Grand Final, which is open only to the top 45 players.
Englishman Jordan L Smith has fallen down to fourth in the Rankings after finishing joint-ninth in the Rolex Trophy and Sweden’s Alexander Bjork has dropped to fifth from third as competition on the Road to Oman heats up.
