be’ah to manage all of Muscat’s solid waste

Muscat: The Oman Environmental Service Holding Company (be’ah) is set to begin overseeing the management of waste across the entire Muscat governorate by July 15, 2019.
Officials at be’ah have met with Dr Yahya Al Nadabi, Wali of Al Amerat and a number of Shura and Municipal Council members as part of preparations for the transfer of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) in the part of Muscat not currently covered, to be’ah.
In a statement, the company said: “Officials from be’ah presented the company’s strategy to manage waste and retrieve value from it, as part of be’ah’s grand strategy.”

A spokesman from be’ah told Times of Oman that this was the second transfer of services in the governorate.
be’ah has already been operating a large area of Muscat and now all Municipal Solid Waste services within the governorate will be managed by the company.
Waste collection
The spokesman added that this transfer represents a change in how waste is collected. It will also see the introduction of be’ah’s waste management hotline to the whole of Muscat, as well as the introduction of brand new be’ah waste containers.
During the meeting, Zakariya Al Balushi, Director of Operations in Muscat, revealed that the company had signed an agreement with Averda Waste Mange to carry out the operations and waste collection.
Muhannad Al Jumaa, Director of be’ah academy, also spoke about the importance of spreading awareness relating to waste management by reaching out to the community, in order to better facilitate it and to improve the quality of service.
