MUSCAT: Armed with unwavering focus, a love for learning, and a deep creative spirit, a Class X student of Indian School Ghubra (ISG) has emerged as the CBSE topper in Oman, scoring a phenomenal 99% in the board examinations.
Angela Mariam Jacob’s outstanding result is not just a triumph of academic excellence — it reflects a journey shaped by discipline, determination, and a strong foundation of family and school support.
Describing the moment as “a dream come true,” Angela said her success was the result of meticulous planning, steady revision, and a well-balanced study routine.
“I maintained a consistent routine, revising lessons the same day they were taught. I practiced previous years’ papers and avoided social media during study hours. Proper sleep and regular breaks were just as important,” she told Times of Oman from her native southern Indian state of Kerala.
Angela’s favourite subject is Mathematics, a passion nurtured over the years with the help of her parents, teachers and family. “They inspired me to approach problems with curiosity and confidence. Their support made even the most complex concepts enjoyable.”
Despite the academic demands of Class X, Angela stayed connected to her artistic pursuits.
A talented violinist and visual artist, she enjoys experimenting with various mediums such as acrylic, graphite and watercolours.
She also actively participates in dance, elocution, and is a proud member of the Gavel’s Club, where she sharpened her public speaking skills.
“I tried to continue with my hobbies as they contribute to my overall well-being,” said Angela, who also served as Student Council representative, honing her leadership and organisational abilities through school events and activities.
Angela now plans to continue her higher secondary education in Kerala, having chosen the Science stream with Mathematics and Computer Science.
“I want to explore further possibilities in this field and continue working hard,” she said.
Grateful for the role her school played in her academic journey, Angela said, “I’m thankful to our Principal Papri Ghosh Ma’am, Vice Principal, teachers and staff for their tireless support. They clarified doubts patiently, gave us worksheets and past papers, and even conducted extra classes to help us stay prepared.”
Angela attributes her success to a strong foundation of family support.
Her father, Jacob Thomas, is a Project Specification Lead at Zubair Electric LLC, and her mother, Thankam Jacob, is a Software Consultant at Insight Information LLC.
Her younger brother, Abel Thomas Jacob, a Class 7 student at ISG, “helped me unwind with his cheerful conversations and constant encouragement,” she said.
Angela is currently in Kerala, celebrating her results with her grandparents and friends. “I’m looking forward to returning to Muscat and celebrating with my teachers, classmates and school community,” she said with a beaming smile.Angela is a shining example who is a blend of academic brilliance, artistic flair and leadership qualities.
