Muscat: The Authority for Public Services Regulation has announced the implementation of varying discounts on electricity consumption bills for residential category (basic account) during the summer months, starting from May and continuing until the end of August 2025. Additionally, the tariff rates for electricity consumption slabs in 2025 will remain fixed without any changes.
According to the announcement, In May, the discount rates are distributed as follows: subscribers in the first slab (consumption between 0 and 4000 kilowatts) will receive a 15% discount on their bill, while subscribers in the second slab (consumption between 4001 and 6000 kilowatts) will benefit from a 10% discount. A 5% discount will be applied to subscribers in the third slab (consumption exceeding 6001 kilowatts).
During the months of June, July, and August, the discount rates increase to 20% for the first slab, 15% for the second slab, and 10% for the third slab.
The Authority has also directed licensed companies to adhere to not cutting off electricity services for subscribers in the basic account category during the summer months. It has also allowed the option to install financial dues for electricity bills during this period, based on its approved regulatory framework. This ensures the continuity of service and strengthens the protection of subscribers' rights during peak demand periods caused by high summer temperatures.
The Authority has called on eligible individuals to register their details in the National Subsidy System to benefit from the package of facilities and incentives provided.
