Muscat: Oman national handball team defeated its Emirati counterpart 2-0, and Bahrain defeated Saudi Arabia 2-1 on the first day of the third Gulf Beach Games in Muscat.
The third edition of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Beach Games officially commenced on Saturday morning in Oman, running from April 5 to April 11. The competition began with beach handball and paragliding events.
The official opening ceremony will take place on Saturday evening at the Lake Theatre in Qurum Natural Park under the patronage of His Highness Sayyid Malik bin Shihab Al Said.
The ceremony will mark the start of an exciting series of competitions, with athletes from across the Gulf nations competing for medals.
This year's tournament features eight sports disciplines, including beach soccer, beach handball, beach volleyball, beach athletics, marine sports, open water swimming, paragliding, and equestrian tent pegging
The opening ceremony will showcase cultural and artistic performances that highlight Omani and Gulf identities, celebrating the spirit and values of the games.
Oman’s national handball player, Asaad Al-Hosani, will carry the Omani flag during the ceremony, while national beach soccer player Khalid Al-Araimi will lead the athlete’s oath at the event.
