Muscat: The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority has granted approval to Starlink Muscat to begin offering broadband internet services in Oman using satellite communication systems.
Starlink operates through low-earth orbit satellites to provide high-speed broadband internet, primarily targeting areas where high-speed internet services are unavailable.
The company will cover all geographical regions in Oman, including universal service areas, with speeds reaching up to 100 Mbps. Additionally, Starlink will offer innovative solutions for connecting communication towers in regions with challenging terrain, further boosting the digital transformation in Oman. The service is also expected to benefit key economic sectors such as oil and gas, mining, tourism, and agriculture.
The launch of satellite internet services in Oman brings several advantages, including enhancing competition among licensed telecom companies, increasing consumer choices, improving quality and speed, fostering a stronger digital community, and supporting various business sectors. Any individual or entity seeking these services can access them through Starlink.
Royal Decree No. 42/2023, issued on June 20, 2023, granted a first-category license to Starlink Muscat LLC to establish and operate a satellite communication system for providing fixed public communication services.
