Al Suwaiq: The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism is maintaining and renovating several forts and towers in the Wilayat of Al Suwaiq, South Al Batinah Governorate.
The projects come within the ministry’s commitment to preservation of the historic and heritage landmarks in the various wilayats and governorates of the Sultanate of Oman.
Hassan bin Sulaiman Al Jabri, Director of Heritage and Tourism Department in South Al Batinah Governorate, said that the ministry is renovating and maintaining heritage sites in the Wilayat of Al Suwaiq .
He said that the ministry has completed renovation of Soor (fence) and towers of Al Maghabsha including the interior works. The ministry is also proceeding with the renovation works of Al Hilal Soor (Fence ) which is expected to be completed during the current year.
He said that Sour Al Maghabsha was built during the reign of Sayyid Said bin Sultan Al Busaidi (1807-1856) and it is known for its rectangular fort with the length of 45 metres and the width of 44 metres and includes four towers.
The establishment of Soor Al Hilal dates back to the 19 th century and is known for its square shape with an entrance and two floors for guarding purposes and two canons, he added.
He said that the renovation works of these heritage landmarks contribute to their preservation, which provides the future generations with the opportunity to acquaint with them.
