Private libraries, cultural centres’ excellence contest launched

Muscat: The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth has launched the 4the dition of the 2025 “Excellence Competition for Private Libraries and Cultural Centres”.

The contest is aimed at developing smart private libraries featuring a programme that explores ‘Open knowledge horizons’.

The launch of the 4th edition of the competition coincides with celebrations marking the Arab Libraries Day, which falls on 10 March every year.

The completion gains significance through its role in activating libraries and civil cultural centres, which are considered major factors in the development of societies.

This year’s competition focuses on the assessment of libraries and civil cultural centres—an assessment that takes shape through in-depth analysis of the effectiveness of libraries and cultural centres, based on the “open knowledge horizons” programme.

The competition aims to support libraries and private cultural centres in the various governorates of the Sultanate of Oman, and encourage them to develop their services through the ‘Open knowledge horizons’, keep pace with developments in the field of libraries and information, and activate their cultural role in society through the programmes and services they provide, in addition to spreading the spirit of competition between cultural centres and libraries to provide the best in the cultural and community sector, and intensively activating the cultural movement through them.
