Oman to host Indian Ocean Conference on 16 February

Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Foreign Ministry, will host on 16 February 2025 the 18th Indian Ocean Conference.

The two-day conference will be held under the theme “Voyage to New Horizons of Maritime Partnership.”

Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, Foreign Minister affirmed that the Sultanate of Oman's hosting of this conference reflects its commitment to enhancing maritime security, backing sustainable maritime trade and developing international cooperation mechanisms to address common regional challenges.

He told Oman News Agency (ONA) that the conference is a strategic platform for exchanging visions on the future of the blue economy and ocean governance. The Foreign Minister underlined Oman’s aspiration for constructive discussions that contribute to achieving the interests of participating countries and maintaining regional stability and prosperity.

The conference discusses means of strengthening maritime partnerships, improving trade links, backing sustainable development and issues related to maritime security, ensuring freedom of navigation and utilizing modern technology to enhance port security and governance.

The conference is an annual international platform that aims to enhance regional cooperation and address challenges facing the Indian Ocean region.

Hosting this event comes in line with the aims of Oman Vision 2040 in promoting economic interests with countries in the region and the world and highlighting the pioneering and effective role of the Sultanate of Oman in preserving the sustainability of the Indian Ocean resources,

The event is expected to host participants from over 60 countries and international organizations, reflecting the region’s strategic importance and the need for collaborative solutions.
