The opening ceremony was held under the auspices of HH Sayyid Marwan Turki Al Said, Governor of Dhofar, in the presence of government officials and project executives.

Eng. Ali Issa Shamas, CEO of Nama Services Dhofar, said that the coverage rate of current sewage networks in Dhofar Governorate reached 70 percent, a total of more than 1,200 kilometres of network length. As many as 60,000 subscribers have so far benefited from the sewage service.

Shamas added that the sewage network project in Sahalnout is being implemented in partnership with Oman National Engineering and Investment Company (ONEIC) for a period of 15 years as part of the government's efforts to encourage the private sector to invest in building infrastructure, notably in the sewage sector.

Shamas stressed Nama Services Dhofar's keenness to enhance sustainable development and infrastructure in the governorate.

The project currently serves about 4,000 subscribers, with plans in place to raise the number to 5,500 subscribers during the first phase.

The project’s station is designed to serve 20,000 subscribers in the future to cover and connect neighbouring plans, as well as the future city of Salalah, and accommodate all current and future flow from the Sahalnout area.

The project covers an area of 13.75 square kilometres and provides an integrated sewage network with a total length of more than 165 km, in addition to 1,200 inspection chambers and about 6,000 sub-house inspection chambers.

The main sewage pumping station is designed to receive and pump a flow rate of 18,510 cubic metres a day.

As for upcoming projects to enhance the sanitation sector and keep pace with urban development, a tender was awarded to expand the main treated water station in Raysut to augment its capacity to 90,000 cubic metres a day, to the tune of RO 35 million. Construction work began early this year and the project is expected to be completed in 2027.

The sewage treatment plant project in the Sahalnout area of Salalah constitutes part of a series of development projects in the sewage sector in Dhofar Governorate.

Dhofar Governorates saw the implementation of the first sewage treatment plant in the Sultanate of Oman in 1992. The project aimed to boost the infrastructure and sewage services to cater to urban growth and sustainable development in the governorate.
