Muscat: The much-anticipated gigantic double-decker Emirates Airbus A380 began operating between Muscat and Dubai yesterday.
The route is the world’s shortest flight on the A380 and will operate twice daily to and from Muscat.
With more than 400 passengers on board, the inaugural flight from Muscat International Airport on Monday took off at the scheduled time – 11:25 am – and arrived in Dubai less than an hour later, landing at 12:19 pm. Talking to Times of Oman, a frequent flyer said he was extremely happy to see the Airbus in operation in the Sultanate.

“I have been living in Oman for about seven years and I absolutely love travelling. I am very happy and excited to see that Airbus has finally come to Oman which proves the readiness of the newly built airport. I am flying in a few months for my travel blog and will make sure to book the same airline as the experience of flying in this humongous bird is incredible,” Andrew Nagy, who hails from Hungary said.
Another expat Indian family who were travelling in business class located on the upper deck, were visiting Nairobi on holiday. The family of four were thrilled to be boarding A380.
“We honestly weren’t expecting to be boarding the double-decker which we have heard so much about. About two weeks ago, I saw business class promotional offers that were affordable and decided to go for it – I am glad that we did!” the father of two said.
The aircraft, which consists of two decks, has economy on the lower deck and business and first class on the upper.
There are more than 400 seats in the economy section whereas 76 business class flatbed seats and 14 first class private suites are located upstairs.
