​Oman crime: 454 illegal workers arrested in Oman

Muscat: For violating the Labour Law, 454 illegal workers including 353 commercial workers, 45 farm workers and 56 housemaids and their equivalents were
arrested between August 7 and August 13, says the weekly report of the joint inspection team at the Ministry of Manpower.
The inspection teams caught 437 workers including 234 absconding workers, 199 astray workers and 4 workers with other violations.
The Governorate of Muscat recorded the largest number of workers violating the law with 162 followed by the Governorate of North Al Batinah with 106 workers. The competent authorities at the Ministry of Manpower are taking the legal procedures against them.
On the other hand, the Manpower Ministry statistics showed that 318) expatriate workers were deported for violating provisions of the Labour Law and the ministerial decisions executing the law.
Royal Oman Police’s Coast Guard unit arrested four Asians who were trying to leave the sultanate illegally through Khasab port. The arrested have been referred to the Musandam police for further investigation.
