Muscat: The combination of beautiful beaches and glorious weather in Al Ashkhara is to be promoted in the hope of attracting more tourists to the South Al Sharqiyah area. A senior official with the hospitality industry told Times of Oman about the appeal of the area: “Al Ashkhara is truly a beautiful place. It is seeing constant developments with projects to appeal to tourists; it’s a great place to visit in Oman.”
“The weather in Al Ashkhara is wonderful during the summer and the beach is nearby for tourists to have a dip. Most of all, it’s a place to relax from the capital’s bustle and forget about work for a short time.” “With the new upcoming projects and its own natural beauty, Al Ashkhara is sure to attract a lot of tourists,” he added.
According to a statement by the Ministry of Tourism, “Al Ashkhara in South Al Sharqiyah is considered one of the most important summer tourist destinations thanks to its gorgeous breeze, caused by the Khareef season in Dhofar.”
“Al Ashkhara enjoys beautiful, golden beaches with soft sands which make it a sanctuary for many species of birds,” the statement added. The hotels and restaurants can also be a wonderful source of local cuisine, as the area is a special importer of fresh fish and lobsters.
Those visiting the area can also see some of the local craftsmen at work, which ranges from boat builders to traditional textile making as well as tourist gifts.
Recently, Omran has announced that a new hotel, Atana Stay Al Ashkhara, is set to be completed in the third quarter of 2019, which, it is hoped, will accelerate the development of domestic tourism and the hospitality sector in the country. The Ministry of Tourism (MoT) has also paid Al Ashkhara special attention, with the possibility of even more projects coming to the area soon. The MoT recently extended the period for companies to submit proposals to invest in Ministry land at Al Ashkharah beach, with companies being allowed to submit their documents up until 25 July.
