Nizwa: A tour aimed to explore the historic and heritage landmarks in the wilayat of Nizwa, Al Dakhiliyah Governorate, kicked off, yesterday.
The walking tour was organised by the Tourism Committee of Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate in cooperation with Nizwa Club and the adventure team of Al Sumoud Team affiliated to Nizwa Club.
The walk saw the participation of over 3,500 participants of different age groups and nationalities and with the support of the government departments and private sector establishments.
Salim bin Nasser Al Aufi, Minister of Energy and Minerals inaugurated the walk which started from the parking area of Nizwa Souq. The walk passed by the course of Al Wadi Al Byadh and along the gardens of Daris, the old buildings of Al Suwaiq Neighbourhood, Hisn Bait Salit Neighbourhod and Falaj Daris.
The walking tour included various archaeological and historic sites, a visit to Al Ghantaq area, the historic mosques of Kharaseen, Nizwa Fort, Soor Al Aqar and other famous landmarks and sites.
Khalfan Hamad Al Zaidi, Chairman of the Board of Nizwa Club supervising on the walk tour said that 3,608 people participated in the tour which saw no emergency cases.
The purpose of the walk is to shed light on the rich heritage and the unique tourism landmarks in Nizwa including the forts and falajs. The second walking tour will be in November 2025, he added.
