Air trough to bring rain, active winds to parts of Oman

Muscat: An air trough is expected to affect the northern governorates of Oman from Sunday, 15 December, to Tuesday, 17 December, 2024, bringing scattered rain and other weather phenomena, according to Oman Meteorology.

In an online statement, Oman Meteorology reported: “The latest weather maps and numerical forecasts indicate that an air trough will pass from Sunday evening until Tuesday over the northern governorates, with an influx of clouds and chances of scattered rain. This may lead to the flow of some valleys and ravines in Musandam Governorate, parts of the Al Hajar Mountains, and along sections of the Sea of Oman coastline.”

Expected Weather Phenomena:

    * Active winds and dusty conditions.
    * High waves along most coastal areas.
    * A decrease in temperatures.
    * Frost formation on mountain peaks.

Residents are advised to exercise caution, particularly in affected areas prone to rain-induced flooding and high winds. Mariners should be aware of rough sea conditions, and motorists are urged to drive carefully due to potential low visibility from dust and rain.
