Muscat: The AMM Sports Arena, in collaboration with the Oman Racket Sports Committee (ORSC), celebrated the successful conclusion of the Oman Grand Prix Badminton Tournament Season 3 recently.
Held over two exhilarating weekends - November 8-9 and 15-16 - the tournament brought together over 200 players from Oman, India, Indonesia, the UAE, Iran, and the UK, setting a new benchmark for participation and inclusivity.
This year’s tournament, which featured 24 categories across singles, doubles, and mixed doubles, offered opportunities for seasoned professionals and emerging talent alike. The matches showcased remarkable athleticism, tactical brilliance, and intense competition, particularly in the senior categories, which left spectators on the edge of their seats. The tournament provided a vibrant platform for players of all ages and experience levels, emphasizing the growth of badminton at both grassroots and elite levels.
The enthusiastic turnout of spectators, both local and international, added an electrifying atmosphere to the matches. Their support not only motivated the players but also demonstrated the growing popularity of badminton in the region. The tournament further elevated its appeal with a generous prize pool of over OMR4,000, distributed among winners and runners-up in each category, ensuring high stakes and exceptional performances.
The closing ceremony was graced by notable dignitaries, including Abdul Rahim Muslem Droushi, Chairman of the Oman Racket Sports Committee, and Ahmed Essa Al Zedjali, CEO of Muscat Media Group.
In his address, Droushi commended the organisers for their dedication to promoting badminton and other racket sports in Oman. He emphasised the importance of such events in nurturing young talent and strengthening international sports exchanges.
Zedjali echoed these sentiments, highlighting the role of media coverage in inspiring future generations of athletes.
