South Korean artist brings a message of shared humanity to Oman with her new solo exhibition

London: Bait Muzna Gallery, in collaboration with Metamorphosis Art Projects London, announced the highly anticipated Middle Eastern launch of “We Are All Flowers from the Same Garden,” a solo exhibition by the renowned South Korean artist Oh Myung Hee. Under the esteemed patronage of Her HighnessSayyida Susan Al Said, Oh Myung Hee is exhibiting for the very first time in Oman.

This extraordinary exhibition will explore themes of interconnectedness, cultural memory, and shared humanity, celebrating the cycles of life, resilience, and the universal experiences that bind us all.

Oh Myung Hee, a celebrated figure in the global art world, is known for her evocative three-dimensional works, videos, and multimedia installations that combine traditional Korean materials such as mother-of-pearl, eggshell, and lacquer with contemporary themes.

Her work has been exhibited internationally, including The Nairobi National Museum Kenya, Saatchi Gallery London, the 59th Venice Biennale, and Museum San, Wonju Korea. Now, she brings her visionary art to Oman, marking a significant moment in cross-cultural exchange between South Korea and the Middle East.

A Celebration of Shared Humanity

The exhibition “We Are All Flowers from the Same Garden” is a poetic meditation on the cycles of life, the perpetual rebirth of nature, and the enduring hope that unites us all.

Oh Myung Hee’s works reflect on collective memory, family, and the interconnectedness of all living beings. Her exploration of the Tree of Life symbolises the unity of existence, while her pieces exude a quiet yet powerful hope and joy that speaks to the human spirit’s resilience.

The central theme of the exhibition, shared humanity, emphasises the idea that, like flowers in a garden, we may all be different in shape, size, and colour, but we are united by our shared experiences and emotions.

The immersive nature of the exhibition invites audiences to reflect on their own connections to family, memory, and nature, creating a universal dialogue that transcends cultural boundaries.

Cultural Diplomacy and Collaboration

This exhibition is particularly timely as it celebrates 50 years of diplomatic relations between South Korea and Oman. His Excellency Ambassador KiejooKim will inaugurate the exhibition on 3rd December in Muscat.

The exhibition seeks to foster greater cultural understanding between the two nations. Through Oh Myung Hee’s art, the exhibition aims to build bridges between South Korean and Omani audiences, highlighting shared values, heritage, and the collective human experience.

“We are honoured to present Oh Myung Hee’s work at Bait Muzna Gallery,” said HHSayyida Susan Al Said, the gallery’s founder. “This exhibition serves as a powerful reminder that despite our differences, we are all connected through our shared humanity.”

Engaging Programming

In addition to the exhibition, Oh Myung Hee will lead workshops at Bait Muzna Gallery, offering visitors the chance to explore traditional Korean art techniques, including the use of mother-of-pearl and lacquer. These workshops will provide a unique hands-on experience, allowing participants to engage more deeply with the artist’s work and process.

A professionally published catalogue, featuring essays and contextual texts, will accompany the exhibition. This will provide visitors with a deeper understanding of Oh Myung Hee’s artistic journey, the exhibition’s thematic concerns, and its cross-cultural objectives.

Global Perspective

Following its debut in Muscat, “We Are All Flowers from the Same Garden” is set to travel to Seoul, other Middle Eastern museums, and possibly London, further expanding its reach and impact on a global stage.
